THERE were a number of very exciting races from the West Muskerry A.C. athletes this week when they competed in the West Cork track and field and emerged with a number of medals.

Sheldon Romeo Nyoni put in an impressive performance when he competed in the Junior 100m and everyone stopped and watched as he stormed up the track. He was very impressive over the 100m and won the gold medal. All present said he has a bright future ahead of him.

In the Girls U10 60m, Isla Yore had her mind made up before ever entering the track that she was going to win a medal and boy did it work. She stormed home in the Girls U10 60m sprint to win and then took on the U11 500m right from the start. She was in the lead from gun to tape and was well deserving of the gold medal.

She also competed in the Long Jump where she won the silver medal.Having a good mindset going into competition is half the battle and definitely works.

In the Boys U10, Cole O’Tuama

was competing for the first time and he really enjoyed his day. He won the gold medal in the Boys U10 60m and he then competed in the Boys U11 500m where he finished in second place. A great achievement for his first time competing.

In the Boys U11 500m, Darragh Manning also had a fantastic run. Darragh had a fantastic finish where he was well deserving of the bronze medal.

In the Girls U12 100m, Lisa Carey Martin, competing up an age, also ran superbly and in a very strong field of athletes she was well deserving of the bronze medal.

Ronan O’Neill had a very exciting race in the Boys U12 100m. It went right to the wire and it even had to go to the camera to separate the athletes with Ronan awarded the bronze medal, only losing by a hair. It was very exciting for all.

In the Girls U16, Girls U14 and Boys U14 100m, Danielle O’Neill, Saorlaith Murphy and Finn Yore all ran very well and were well deserving of their gold medals.

Well done also to Rebecca O’Neill, Aisling Ring and Millie Bullman who ran extremely well but were out of the medals on this occasion but were delighted with the chance to compete.
