Footballers aim for quarter final place
KANTURK travel to Ballingeary on Saturday needing victory over Gabriel Rangers in the hope of progressing to the knockout stages of the Premier Intermediate Football Championship.
Kanturk will look back at the defeat to Nemo Rangers last time out with a sense of regret and if the lessons learned can be used on Saturday, victory and a quarter final championship place should be secured. Senior ‘A’ Hurling: Kanturk completed their group A with a resounding victory over Killeagh at Castlelyons on Saturday last.Kanturk were 0-06 to 0-04 ahead at the water break in the opening half and an Aidan Walsh goal shortly after the restart gave them a 1-08 to 0-07 interval lead.
When Lorcan O’Neill goaled eleven minutes into the second half, Kanturk were well in command 2-13 to 0-11. A Killeagh goal closed the proceedings to a four point game at the second half water break before Kanturk put in a storming finish to run out winners 5-20 to 1-16 and set up a quarter final tie with Bandon on the weekend of 11/13th September.
The winners of that tie will cross camans with Charleville in the semi-finals. Junior Hurling: Kanturk’s second string completed their Duhallow J’A’HC round robin with a well-deserved 1-21 to 0-10 victory over Castlemagner at Kilbrin on Sunday last.
Minor Affairs: Kanturk minor footballers made the trip to Carrigaline on Wednesday last 26th August a winning one, overcoming the home side, 3-14 to 2-10 to qualify for a Rebel Og Premier 2 FC semi-final tilt with Carbery Rangers on Wednesday 23rd September.
In Premier 2 Minor Hurling Kanturk face Kiltha Og in the semi-final at Mourneabbey on Wednesday next 9th September with a 7pm start.
