Lady Captain’s Day at golf club
LADY Captain’s Day is one of the most eagerly anticipated annual events at Kanturk Golf Club, and this year’s competition was no exception.
While deviations from normal procedure were inevitable due to the current restrictions, nevertheless Lady Captain Deirdre Sheehan made sure that the day’s golfing was safe and enjoyable for everyone. Deirdre’s husband Denis, her mother Máire, sister Ciara and committee members rowed in to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day.
Before teeing off Deirdre saw to it that every player was armed with food and water for their round. While conditions underfoot were wet in places the rain held off ensuring a pleasant round of golf for everyone.
On their return to the Clubhouse, the golfers were again treated to very welcome refreshments and tasty bites served in individually wrapped containers.
Normally, prizes are presented at the Captain’s dinner but unfortunately COVID-19
restrictions meant that it could not go ahead this year. Instead, Deirdre presented her golf themed prizes against a backdrop of glorious sunshine on Sunday.
She thanked everyone for taking part in the competition and helping out with her Prize Day.
1st prize was won by Carmel Buckley. 2nd to 5th prizes were won by young ladies who are either present juvenile members in the club or have been in the recent past. This augurs well for the future. 2nd prize went to Karen O’Donoghue, while the gross prize went to Mairéad Martin. 3rd prize went to Tara Sweeney, 4th prize to Áine Martin and 5th prize to Katie Savage.
Category winners were Trudy Brosnan (0-16), Eilish O’Connor (19-29) and Kitty Hennessy (30-54).
Front nine was won by Betty O’Connor, back nine by Joan Cremin, past captain by Fidelma O’Connor and the seniors’ prize went to Pat O’Grady.
Deirdre Sheehan was complimented on organising a wonderful weekend in such exceptional circumstances.
