Hurlers progress in Co. C’ship
CHARLEVILLE registered a comprehensive win over a weakened Fermoy side in the third round of Group B of the Dairygold Co-op Superstores Cork Senior Hurling Championship game that was played in Kildorrery on last Saturday after noon.
The Charleville side won on a score line of 3-20 to 0-14 to top their group, and will now play either Kanturk or Bandon in the next round, in the knockout stages of the championship.
Charleville were never led in this game and raced into the lead early in the first half and maintained this momentum to half-time when they led by 1-11 t0 0-7. They kept the pressure up on the resumption, and Fermoy’s task wasn’t helped by the dismissal of Eoin Clancy for a second yellow card, and they never recovered to offer a serious challenge to the Charlevill team, who ran out comfortable winners on the above score line.
Charleville are now the only local side left in the County senior championship as both Ballyhea and Newtownshandrum went down to Sarsfields and Erin’s Own, respectively in their games also on Saturday evening.
