Vital win over Fermoy sees Charlevill­e minors into final

CHARLEVILL­E had a vital win over Fermoy in the MAHC concluding round at home last week. Fermoy were already through to the decider. It was an outstandin­g game all through. Cian O’Brien had the opening score for Fermoy in the first minute. Killian Cagney levelled soon after. Good play by Darragh O’Sullivan led to a Dylan O’Brien point.

Jack Kilcommons placed David Forde for a fifth minute goal 1-2 to 0-1. Fermoy replied with points by Ben Twomey and James Fitzpatric­k. The home side replied with a Killian Cagney pointed free. Ronan Hoskins pointed for Fermoy with Ben Twomey having an eighth minute goal as Fermoy led 1-4 to 1-3. David Forde had them level 1-4 each. They were also deadlocked at 1-5 each after 14 minutes. Three points for Fermoy by Killian Fitzpatric­k, Darragh Daly and Jake Carr (free) gave Fermoy a lead 1-8 to 1-5 at the water break.

On the restart Fitzpatric­k with a point gave Fermoy a four point lead but Charlevill­e fought back well. Two pointed frees by Killian Cagney kept them in touch. Both sides exchanged points with Fermoy ahead at the break 1-11 to 1-9.

The second half was again closely contested. Ronan Hoskin’s and Killian Cagney ‘65’ swapped a point. Points for Fermoy by Killian Fitzpatric­k and Ben Twomey opened up a lead 1-14 to 1-10. Charlevill­e had three points on the trot as the sides were level 1-14 each.

The last quarter saw Charlevill­e do well. They had seven points in this period by David Forde, Stephen

McCarthy, Joey Herbert and Killian Cagney (4) while Fermoy hit points by Ronan Hoskin’s and Killian Fitzpatric­k.

Best for the winners were Stephen McCarthy, Killian Cagney, David O’Neill, Joey Herbert, David Forde, Dylan O’Brien and Jack Kilcommons. For Fermoy Liam Clancy, Brian Shanahan, Darragh Daly, Craig Roche, Ben Twomey Killian Fitzpatric­k and Ronan Hoskins did well. These sides will now meet in the final next week.
