A DRAFT plan has now been created for the new school building at Charleville CBS Primary School campus at Baker’s Road, Charleville.

The plan is the work of an architect in the Department of Education and as the new school building is considered a major building project, Cork Educational Training Board (ETB) will aid the school’s Board of Management with the delivery of the project.

The ETB have now advertised for the position of Project Manager who, when appointed, will then put in place a design team consisting of an architect, building services engineer, civil/structural engineer and a quantity surveyor. This information is relayed in the school’s October newsletter put out by the Principal, Michael O’Sullivan.

Mr. O’Sullivan also reveals that CBS Primary School Charleville has received funding for the provision of a new playground to the rear of the school. “This development consists of major works to the Glen River, which is located to the rear of the playground. Part of the river will be redirected underground, and a new basketball court will be built on top of it. The application for this work on the river is currently being considered by the Office of Public Works,” said Mr. O’Sullivan.

While the building of the new school is in progress the school community affected will move into temporary accommodation and Limerick based Procad Engineering has been appointed as building consultants for this project. This consists of an additional prefabricated building, a mainstream classroom and a resource room which will be located adjacent to the existing temporary buildings to the rear of the main school.

The planning permission for this project will be lodged within weeks and it is expected that the accommodation will be in place for late January 2021.

CBS Primary Charleville has also purchased new touchscreen laptops to ensure that all children can have one each during their class’s timetabled slots. Each unit is cleaned down after individual use and all the boys are enjoying engaging in many different activities and project work, such as SEESAW, MS Word, Powerpoint.

The school also has a literacy hour and a school book club.
