Funding for community projects in Duhallow will ‘make a big difference locally’

- BY JACK JOY

FUNDING granted to community projects in Duhallow will “make a big difference locally” according to Cork North-West TD Michael Moynihan.

Castlemagner, Lyre, Millstreet and Rockchapel will benefit from new grants under the CLÁR Programme, which provides funding for small-scale projects in rural areas that have experienced population decline.

Under the scheme, €50,000 has been approved for the development of Castlemagner Playground, and the same sum has been granted for the development of a multi-use games area in Lyre.

Millstreet Community Hall will receive €48,112 for roof repairs, and Rockchapel Community Centre has been granted €46,845 for an extension of its kitchen.

Deputy Moynihan said that “it is fantastic” that the projects have been included in the €455,889 granted to 11 initiatives across all of County Cork.

“These projects are a key part of the Government’s policy for rural Ireland, Our Rural Future,” Deputy Moynihan said.

“I know that the funding will make a big difference locally here in our communities,” he continued.

“The funding will be welcomed by everybody here locally, and it is important that we continue to support the work being done by local groups who work so hard to make our communities the best they can be.”

Also receiving funding, Timoleague Community Association has had €45,000 in funding approved for the upgrade of playground equipment, and the redevelopment of the Community Island Park in Inchigeela has been granted €43,200. Under the 2023 CLÁR Programme, €6.2million in new funding has been allocated to 152 projects nationwide, of which €450,000 has been approved for projects across all of Cork.
