MTU Cork students bring the hits of Madness to the stage in a new musical

A talented cast from the BA in Musical Theatre degree and a live band of students from MTU Cork School of Music’s music degrees are bringing the full-scale musical production ‘Our House’ to The Everyman Theatre this February.

Our House tells the story of London-Irish lad Joe Casey, who on the night of his sixteenth birthday makes a choice between right and wrong that will impact the rest of his life.

The audience will follow two versions of Joe, one good and one bad that leads to an explosive climax, all set to the high-energy music of Madness, including hits like Baggy Trousers, This Must Be Love, and House of Fun.

The musical is based on a book by Tim Firth and was first staged in 2002 at London’s Cambridge Theatre.

Our House is directed by Christine Scarry who has impressive credits including In Good Company – Liz Callaway Sings Sondheim, (Watergate Theatre), Find Your Way Home (Symphony Space, NYC), Vincent – A Play (National Tour), Michael Collins (Watergate), Annie (Cork Opera House).

David Hayes is the production­s Musical Director, he has worked on Riverdance, Dancing with the Stars (RTÉ), Dirty Dancing, Grease, Sound of Music, Oliver! and The Lion King (Bórd Gáis Energy Theatre).

The show will be choreograp­hed by Thérèse O’Sullivan who has contribute­d to Elf The Musical, (The Lowry,

Manchester and Theatre Royal, Plymouth), Peter Pan (The Courtyard Theatre, Hereford), Nanny Nellie’s Adventures in Pantoland, Sleeping Beauty, and most recently Jack and the Beanstalk (Cork Opera House).

Our House will only run for five shows from Wednesday, February 21 – Saturday, February 24, 2024 at The Everyman.
