development. There is a huge need for this in Charleville at the moment because there is no industrial land available,” he said.

Deputy Moynihan provided more clarity on how the money allocation will be used in the coming months to advance the relief route. “The money will be to appoint people to conduct a study of it and to come back with a solution to the feasibility of the relief road, the land and the compulsory purchase orders (CPO). We hope that money will be spent this year and that what is needed will be completed and be put in for next year so that we can go to the next stage of the development.”

He also revealed that the various stakeholders are currently looking to provide additional car parking within the town. “There is a lot of other activity going on as well because TII and Cork County Council have been looking at land for additional car parking within the town as well. That work is ongoing. That work is between the statutory authorities and the property owners. There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes.”

“Charleville is a hugely important market town,” said Mr Moynihan. “It has two pillar banks and two Credit Unions. Over 4,000 people are employed within the town. There is a huge engineering industry that came from the Golden Vale. Their product is being constructed and built in Charleville and being shipped to America and beyond.

“There is huge economic activity. St Joseph’s Foundation is at the heart of Charleville. It is providing a hugely important service. There is a lot of work going on. This is to make the town better, to improve it and to sustain it into the future,” he added.
