Dohenys maintain unbeaten run against Kiskeam

COUNTY FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION 2

-

Dohenys 0-12 Kiskeam 0-7

TWO games into the McCarthy Insurance Group County FL Division 2 and Dohenys show not a single blot on the road after a dominant second half showing away to Kiskeam.

Having taken a win in their initial assignment against O’Donovan Rossa a week earlier, the newly promoted Dunmanway side are setting a hot pace at the top of the table. Following a closely contested opening spell, Dohenys emerged much more efficient in their use of attacking possession, raising the questions which Kiskeam seldom came close to answering.

In biting cold conditions, Dohenys laid out their stall at the outset, Gavin Farr pointing. The home side played their way back into the reckoning through well taken points from Anthony Dennehy, Tomás Casey and A J O’Connor.

Both combinations defended doggedly, a Keith White point gained equality for Dohenys only for Casey to reply to push Kiskeam ahead 0-5 to 0-4 at the interval. Through a point from substitute Gene Casey doubled Kiskeam’s advantage on the restart yet they failed to add to their tally for another 25 minutes.

Dohenys grew in stature, asserting their authority from the vigilance of Eoin Lavers, Donal Rice and Colm Barry in defence as Johnny Kelly and Rhys Coakley swung the midfield battle. And in attack, the visitors held attacking threats with Mark Buckley and Farr reeling off points.

Goal chances were at a premium, the best opportunity fell to Dohenys, a brilliant move saw

Buckley and Keith White combine only for Paudie Cronin to be denied by a smart save from Kiskeam ‘keeper Anthony Casey. However from the spilled ball, the highly effective White popped over a point.

Indeed as the contest developed, Dohenys were much more efficient in their use of attacking possession, well worked moves yielded further points from Cronin, White and Buckley. Having conceded seven consecutive points, Kiskeam’s hopes flickered after Casey pointed a free.

Still Dohenys remained well equipped to remain patient, Buckley closed out the scoring with a neat point. Next up for Dohenys is a home assignment against Béal Áthan Ghaorthaidh while Kiskeam relegated from Division 1 last season attempt for a response on a visit to Fermoy.
