Tompkins’ understrength Aghada mauled by Mallow

MALLOW were comprehensive winners over an understrength Aghada side in Division 3.

Aghada, in their first game under Larry Tompkins, were short about eight key players and it was too much against a well balanced Mallow who, from the start, gained control in the half back line and midfield sectors.

They had seven wides in the opening quarter. Points by Mark Tobin, Sean McDonnell and Daniel O’Sullivan had the Avondhu side 0-3 to 0-0 clear. Cian Hegarty opened Aghada’s account in the 17th minute before Stephen O’Callaghan soloed up field and pointed for Mallow.

A series of points by Mark Tobin, Peadar Hennessy and Jack Dillon made it 0-9 to 0-1. Good play by Daniel O’Sullivan led to a fine Mark Tobin point. Charlie Terry pointed for the Imokilly side in the 28th minute. At the break Mallow were 0-10 to 0-2 clear.

The second half was much the same Billy Myers placed Sean McDonnell for an early point. In the 40th minute Sean McDonnell had a Mallow goal. Jamie O’Hanlon pointed for Aghada.

Ryan Harkin replied for Mallow and the same player worked well for Mark Tobin who goaled 2-15 to 0-3 after 44 minutes. Mark Tobin had his second goal in the 48th minute. Diarmuid Phelan and Jamie O’Hanlon (free) completed the Aghada tally. McDonnell with an injury time point for Mallow gave them a very easy win.
