All types of everything on offer at annual Kanturk Spring Fair

- SHEILA FITZGERALD

ALTHOUGH the rain poured down outside, Kanturk & District Community Council, members enthusiastically looked forward to a brighter and better season ahead as they ran their Easter Fair at the Edel Quinn Hall last Sunday.

From early on, stall holders from Cork, Kerry and Limerick set up their wares, offering a diverse array of quality artisan goods and foods and of course the lively Easter Bunny was one of the main attractions on the day!

Kevin Higgins, speaking on behalf of the Community Council, said: “The inclement weather certainly deterred lots or regular punters from coming in but didn’t damper the spirits of those in attendance. The children loved meeting the Easter Bunny and getting Easter Eggs. We had face painting and candy floss as well to keep them all happy”.

Meanwhile, guessing the weight of the cake, name of the Bunny, how many sweets in the ‘egg’, browsing the stalls and taking part in the Raffle kept the adults entertained!

Community Council members continue the work of renovating both the Edel Quinn Hall and the Trade Union Hall. Forthcoming fundraisers include a Golf Classic at the Golf Club in early summer and, more imminently, the wonderful Duhallow Choral Society will perform in concert on Saturday, April 20. The Wicklow Male Voice Choir will be special guests on the night. One of the members Michael O’ Reilly, originally from O’ Brien St. was instrumental in organising the Concert. Watch out for Tickets going on sale shortly.

On a final note Kevin Higgins of the Community Council said: “We want to say a big thank you to everyone who supported us on Sunday, especially all the great stall holders and we look forward to all the forthcoming events”.
