Call to Gaelic action 4 Mothers & Others in Dromtariffe area

- BY JOHN TARRANT

ALL INVOLVED in the Dromtariffe Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others are gearing up for a new season, as detailed at the Sandpit House recently.

The concept is an innovative means to introduce mothers and other women to playing Ladies Gaelic Football.

“Mothers often drop their kids to training and call back to collect them, but the Ladies Gaelic Football Association wanted to change matters around, the Gaelic4Mothers&Others initiative sees women playing Ladies Gaelic Football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment”, said spokesperson Maria Kelleher.

Chairperson of Dromtariffe Ladies Football Club Michelle O’Keeffe outlined that the facility provides an opportunity for women to get their recommended weekly exercise in a fun way while meeting other mothers in the area.

“The initiative has proved hugely popular with women of all ages and has taken off countrywide. During the past year, there was terrific interest in our club, with up to 50 ladies involved, drawn from Dromtariffe, Millstreet, Cullen, Rathmore and Carriganima, one of our participants is a granny”, she said.

Looking to the season ahead, Dromtariffe

will parade a new sporting strip thanks to a set of jerseys sponsored by Duhallow Sawmills.

“Thanks are extended to Michael, Richie and Mary Cullinane for their kind sponsorship, additionally, we have kind support from Eamon Tarrant Agri Contractor, Niall O’Flynn Recovery, Sandpit House and other contributors”, said Maria.

With the approach of longer evenings and better weather, plans are afoot to return to the green fields under team coach Patrick O’Keeffe.

New members are welcome; those interested can contact Dromtariffe Ladies Football Club officers.
