Glanworth gearing up for a celebration of music, community and local talent
Glanfest, an annual extravaganza celebrating music, community spirit and local talent, is gearing up for its 2024 edition with an enticing line-up aimed at having something for everybody.
Set against the picturesque backdrop of Glanworth in North Cork, Glanfest promises a May Bank Holiday weekend filled with fantastic music acts, engaging discussions, family-friendly activities, and much more.
This year’s music line-up is sure to get toes tapping and hearts racing with performances by some of Ireland’s most beloved acts. Headlining the event are acclaimed artists such as Mundy, The Fógues, Riff Shop, and Deuces Wild, promising an unforgettable musical experience for attendees of all ages.
Joining them on stage is the uproariously funny comedian Cornelius Patrick O’Sullivan and the foot-stomping tunes of The 3 Buachaillí.
Organisers point out that the event isn’t just about the music. As part of the festivities, Glanfest will host a panel discussion on ‘Grassroots’, featuring esteemed guests such as Liam Sheedy, former Tipperary hurling manager and Sunday Game pundit; Cork ladies football and camogie legend Rena Buckley; and Johnny Pilkington, All-Ireland-winning hurler with Offaly. The discussion will delve into the importance of grassroots sports in local communities and the impact they have on fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie. No subject is off limits, as last year’s guests – Dónal Óg Cusack, John Mullane and Briege Corkery – can attest to!
During the daytime events, attendees can immerse themselves in a plethora of activities that capture the essence of community life in Cork. The farmers’ market will showcase the finest local produce, crafts, and delicacies, while the family fun day will offer a wide range of entertainment for all ages, including interactive workshops, games, and attractions.
Pet lovers can also look forward to the highly anticipated dog show, in which furry friends will compete for top honours in various categories.
The chairman of Glanfest, Stephen Dunne, expressed his excitement about this year’s event.
“Glanfest is a celebration of everything that makes our community special – from our vibrant social scene to our rich sporting heritage and close-knit families,” he said. “We’re thrilled to welcome visitors from near and far to join us for the festivities and fun.”
With a huge raffle also running through the weekend, Glanfest 2024 is set for May 2 to 5 at Glanworth GAA grounds. Located between Fermoy and Mitchelstown, it is just 10 minutes from the Cork Dublin Motorway. Tickets are available online at www.glanfest.ie and at local outlets.
