Tennis club’s championsh­ips up for grabs soon

THE TENNIS club is delighted to welcome the return of the club championsh­ips, taking place from Friday, April 5, to Saturday, April 13.

The event is sure to be a fantastic week of tennis and a great social occasion for the club. The tournament will have events for all members; beginners, intermedia­te and advanced levels will all be catered for.

With a high number of entries so far, the club encourages many more people to enter, especially new members. Closing date for entry is March 31.

The club urged all members to support the event where possible.

Best wishes to club captain Liam O’Grady and vice captain Ray Hurley on their first tournament at the helm.

In the winter league, two of the teams have now qualified for the knock-out stages of the Munster Winter League.

The Grade Twos play St Anne’s away on April 7. The Grade Four team plays away against Catholic Institute Limerick, also on April 7. The Grade Three and Six teams are still involved in the group stages.

The Grade Three team will play away to Monkstown this Sunday at 2pm. The Grade Six team plays Dromahane at home on Bank Holiday Monday at 10am.

Mitchelsto­wn Tennis Club has entered four teams to represent the club in four events.

The Grade Two mixed team is: Evelyn English (captain), Catherine Rea, Cillian Dollion and Eugene O’Mahony.

The Grade Three mixed team is: Michael Rea (captain) Catherine O’Keeffe, Marie O’Neill and Ray Hurley. The Grade Four mixed team is: Liam O’Grady (captain), Nollaig Baker, Ray Hurley and Laura Manning. The Grade Six mixed team is: Angela Crowley (captain), Sharon Shields, James Sherlock and Ciaran Cotter.
