Colemans mark 70 years in business

- JOHN TARRANT

THERE were great celebrations had this past week as the family run business, Coleman Tractors, celebrated 70 years in existence.

Since it was founded in 1954 at the Millstreet premises, it has remained faithful to New Holland and its forerunners and over the course of the past 70 years, has gone from strength to strength.

Colemans is one of the longest-established family-run dealerships in the entire country, originating from a blacksmith tradition that laid the foundation for success in the ‘modern’ world.

A special ‘Open Day’ celebration was held at its Millstreet Base - where the business is now run by the second and third generation - recently and it was hailed as a great success.

As part of of 70th Anniversary celebrations, John Coleman said the hard work and efforts of the entire team has contributed to making the business a success and one that has embraced change down through the years, so much so that it now encompasses an extensive tractor, car, fuel and shopping facility.

“My father, Paddy, along with my uncles, Jer and Tim, worked as blacksmiths, shoeing horses and satisfying the needs of farmers. It made for changing times, the workhorse replaced by a combustion engine”, said John

“The rest is history and we’d like to thank all of our customers for their continued support down through the years and we look forward to serving their needs in the future. The loyalty is extraordinary and there has been unbelievable support from customers and staff. Our current staff are exemplary”, he said.

New Holland’s new area sales manager for the Republic of Ireland, Liam Hayde congratulated the entire Colemans team and applauded their commitment.

“Colemans are a respected business and that’s testament to the respect between the company and staff to its customers”, he said.

Adding to the 70th Anniversary celebrations were a memorable performance by Liam O’Connor and his family with Saoirse, Oisín and Cillian performing along with dancers Eimear and Aisling.
