‘An Enchanted Evening of Music’ is on the program at the Edel Quinn Hall on Saturday night, April 20th when the Duhallow Choral Society, The Wicklow Male Voice Choir and Sheila Fitzgerald will perform in a fundraiser for the renovation of the Edel Quinn Hall, a project currently being undertaken by Kanturk & District Community Council.

Duhallow Choral Society was founded in 1996, since then the group has travelled widely both nationally and internationally and are well loved and appreciated locally.

Manager Brigid Daly said “We have been incredibly busy over the past year. Last October we were honoured to participate in RTE’s Nationwide Programme and in December we switched on the Christmas Lights at Leinster House.

“Recently, we performed in Concert at the Cultúrlann in Newmarket and in Tralee.

“We look forward to supporting the renovation of the Edel Quinn Hall with the proceeds from our Concert on April 20th”.

The Wicklow Male Voice Choir has strong links to Kanturk with one of the members formerly from O’Brien Street. They are looking forward immensely to performing on the night.

Vice Chair of the community council, Becky Kealy said: “We are really excited about this event and we are very grateful to Duhallow Choral Society for coming up with the idea of holding a concert to help us raise funds for the hall.

“As a new committee of just over a year, we have achieved so much, bringing the Community Council accounts of up to date, repairing a damaged section of the Edel Quinn Hall roof and replacing all the electrical works in the Hall. We are currently in the process of getting new safety doors fitted”.

Chairman Gerry Greaney said: “There is a lot more work to be done such as more replacement work to be completed on other sections of the roof. We need a new heating system because the one we have is outdated and not very reliable. We would also love to give the hall a fresh coat of paint, both inside and outside”.

The group has applied for grants to help with their endeavours to modernise the hall but they fall short in the region of €150k.

This fundraiser and others like it will most definitely help the group meet their targets. If you have an idea for a fundraising event to help in the restoration of the Edel Quinn Hall, please contact a member of the Community Council.

Tickets for this event can be purchased through the Kanturk & District Community Council Facebook Page and can also be obtained from any member of the Community Council. For further information call Gerry Greaney at 087-2307382 or the Community Council at 087 4423544 to secure your tickets.

Tickets; €15. The concert will begin at 7.30pm.
