Vincent Murphy inducted into basketball hall of fame

-

Last Saturday was a memorable and a great day for Kanturk Basketball Club when Mr. Vincent Murphy (deceased) founder of Kanturk Basketball Club, was inducted into The Cork County Basketball Boards Hall of Fame.

This was a great day for the Murphy family and the award was received on behalf of the family and Kanturk Basketball Club by Vincent’s son Seannie.

The induction ceremony was attended by a great number of former Kanturk players and a number of past members and officers of Kanturk Basketball Club.

Vincent Murphy was the heart and soul of Kanturk Basketball Club, without him there would be no basketball club in Kanturk.

Vincent, you might be gone but the mention of Kanturk Basketball Club brings your dream back to life. Thanks Vincent for all your determination, RIP.

U13 GIRLS SHIELD CUP, KANTURK AFC V FERMOY

On Saturday March 30th, the U13 girls travelled to Carrig Park to play Fermoy for the 3rd occasion this season, after two tight encounters in the League previously.

Kanturk came out the blocks fast and had the lead after three minutes when a magnificent through ball from Sophia Abernethy put Katie Hourigan in on goal to finish.

The girls continued to dominate and were unfortunate not to be further ahead until they got their reward in the 20th minute when Clodagh Nic Carthiagh turned provider to find Katie once more to give the visitors a 2 goal lead.

Hard in the tackle and playing good passing football Kanturk were good value for their half time lead.

The start of the 2nd half was more even with both sides having half chances. Fermoy pulled one back after 42 minutes with a well worked goal, setting up a tense last 15.

Aine, Karina and Faith came on and did a great job helping Kanturk see out the game to seal the win, along with a strong defensive effort led by player of the match Molly Dowling.

Thanks to everyone who travelled and to Fermoy for a good sporting game. Well done all.
