Recording has begun for another series of historical recollections of local people for the Charleville Coves Home and Away social media platform.

The platform is the brainchild of Charleville exile, the Arkansas, USA-based John Joseph Lambert, who initiated the Facebook page to keep exiles in touch with their local town.

He is himself a member of a long-established local family and it will be recalled, especially by the older generation, that his father, the late Joe Lambert, was for many years prominent in the business life of the town.

He was also instrumental in the start-up of Charleville Credit Union in the early 1960s, and is credited as the man who introduced the movement’s founder in Ireland, Nora Herlihy, to Charleville.

The Charleville end of the Facebook page is managed by local men Paudie Foley and Roger Connolly, who along with videographer Pat O’Hara and photographer Michelle Crowley, arrange the recordings and filming of the various subjects. The resultant films are then posted on Youtube to be accessed by anybody who wishes to view the footage.

‘Cove’ is the colloquial term for a man that is extensively used for as long as one cam remember in Charleville, hence the name that is applied to the platform by J. J. Lambert, who like us all grew up hearing the word in daily use, and wondering about its derivation, especially in later years - and not getting adequate answer.

The platform is an important link with Charleville natives living away from the town, both in Ireland and overseas, and is extensively used by large numbers of local people, now residing throughout the world, who follow the fortunes of their native town from afar.

The new series will follow the format of the previous one and should again be well received by an eager audience.
