Kilbrin to celebrate local group’s 50th with weekend of festivities

Kilbrin Community Council is planning a special weekend of celebrations which will bring everyone in the community, young and old, together to mark 50 years since its founding.

Paulina, who is Kilbrin Community Council’s PRO, told The Corkman that the celebratory weekend will likely be held on the first or second weekend of September, with the first day dedicated to those who have previously served on the committee.

The PRO said that past members of the board and the family members of those who served and have since passed away will be brought together at the local community hall for photographs, finger food and live music.

Interviews will also be carried out with the past members so that the major developments which the council was behind in previous decades can be highlighted and the community can understand how it has got to where it is today.

“There has been a huge commitment that goes into the voluntary work in Kilbrin,” Paulina said.

The next day of celebrations, a Sunday, will be a “family day” on which there will likely be face painting, a barbecue, ice cream and live music.

With the weather likely to be decent, the younger members of the community will be able to expend their energy on the AstroTurf and playground by the local hall, which the PRO said stands as a testament to the “huge” work that the local council has done in Kilbrin over the years.

With stages, nice panelling, an extension, a new roof and superb lighting, Paulina said the facility is the subject of much admiration from visitors hailing from other areas and regularly plays host to the meetings and pursuits of local groups.

Courtesy of its well fitted-out members bar, the hall also holds functions like weddings and attracts crowds from the locality for big games on television, helping the facility and the community council to gather vital funds to carry on making more amenities available to the residents of Kilbrin.
