Vintage fare helps pitch-and-putt club
TRACTORS signed up for the Millstreet Vintage Club in support of the Millstreet Pitch and Putt on a showery day for participants and spectators.
The club expressed thanks for the fantastic support, with an impressive range of tractors participating on a run departing from Millstreet Day Care Centre.
The cavalcade of tractors travelled along picturesque countryside in the Millstreet catchment area.
Clerks of the Course Dan O’Riordan and Danny Lane thanked all the marshals for keeping the event running smoothly on the road and in helping to coordinate parking.
“Not the best of weather but a great turn out, the run benefited Millstreet Pitch and Putt,” said Dan. “They have reached a milestone on a special anniversary. The run entailed a beautiful scenic route that took us to the Station Road, past the Railway and turning an immediate left up along Liscreagh before venturing onto Duarigle Bridge, Ahane, Ballydaly and returning via Coolarne.”
Plaudits were extended to the marshalls, credit to the hardworking crew at sign on, and to the Millstreet Day Centre for providing the venue and hospitality.
Proceeds from the tractor run assisted Millstreet Pitch and Putt Club, celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year, having been founded in 1964 in a picturesque part of Millstreet Town Park.
Millstreet Chairman Barry Fraser spoke of the sport gaining popularity amongst the young and their elders.
“We thank Millstreet Vintage Club for organising the event, down through the years, the aim of the club was to provide a recreation, occupying leisure time for members,” said Barry.
“The pitch-and-putt course is part of Millstreet Town Park that was opened in 1958 before a pitch and putt course was developed; proceeds from the run will help us purchase additional equipment to maintain the course.”
