‘A MOMENT IN TIME’ BOOK LAUNCH
Mai Rafferty is launching her own book of poetry this Friday April 19th 2024 in The Munster Room of the Hibernian Hotel in Mallow.
‘A Moment In Time’ is a book written and published by Mai in aid of CancerConnect. The book brings together the words of Mai and illustrations in the book are treasured ones created by her much loved and fondly remembered husband Peter, and also by a talented young lady, Amy, whom Mai met after Peter’s passing. Amy completed the illustrations in this book.
CancerConnect played a vital role in Peter being able to receive his treatment during his illness, and Mai being so grateful for this took it upon herself to do some vital fundraising with her book.
The book launch will be a great night with live music, book signings, refreshments and of course a fundraising draw. Please come along on the night, show your support and let’s raise some much needed funds.
All funds raised from book sales and the draw will go directly to Cancer Connect. Let’s make this a huge success for Mai, Cancer Connect and for the memory of Peter.

ACCESS TO ANNAKISHA CHURCH
Access during Road Works to the N73 at Annakisha: The supervising engineer has informed the parish that the current road layout will continue for two months and improve thereafter. Approach the Church through the N72 crossroads at Kilcanway or Ballygriffin or at the Gurranachole Crossroads. Follow the signs marked ‘Church’.
KNOW YOUR EIRCODE
Since August 2016 the National Ambulance Service has been using Eircodes to help make it quicker and easier to locate an address in an emergency. Typically, in rural areas a large number of addresses are non-unique (they have no house name or number) and getting to them without an Eircode can be a real challenge requiring detailed and lengthy directions.
Providing an Eircode with an address provides the Emergency Call Taker and Emergency Medical Dispatcher with valuable information which helps them identify the property swiftly and accurately. It is a good idea to keep your Eircode in a place that is visible to all in your home. For those on medication compiling a list of all medications which can be shared in an emergency situation is also helpful.
Make sure your family members know your Eircode–a good idea is to store family member eircodes with their names on your mobile phone.
GAA CLUB NEWS
CLEAN UP OF THE LITTER ON THE ROADS - Killavullen GAA were proud to lean a hand with the clean up of the roads of the parish over the weekend. Sadly, this seems to be necessary every year, and we wish it was not, but under the guidance of John Magner, Carrigacunna and Marion O Regan, from Killavullen Community Council, again this year, a large volume of material was picked up.
The material was placed in the Club GAA Grounds on Saturday morning, and removed by Country Clean on Saturday evening, for which we appreciate.
Coffee cups, Coke cans, Plastic bottles, some large old sofa and tyres were the most common items picked up, all of which can be recycled if a person is civic minded enough to do so. Society needs to change, this reflects very poorly on us, as a collective.
A hand full of individuals are spoiling the countryside for us all, and the law needs to start prosecuting people for this crime. Leaving or throwing litter in a public place is an offence. You can get an on-the-spot fine of €150, or a maximum fine of €4,000 if you are convicted in the District Court. Local authority litter wardens and the Gardaí can issue on-the-spot fines.
What was galling is that this correspondent after spending several hours picking discarded and thrown out items on a road on the approach to Killavullen, and leaving the material in Killavullen GAA grounds, I had to stop again, on the side of the roadway, on the way home, and pick up several discarded McDonald’s food wrappers.
In doing so, I found a receipt, which has been handed into the authorities. Order No. 170 — perhaps, you just bought an expensive hamburger.
LOTTO - There was no winner of the Lotto Jackpot last Tuesday night when the jackpot on the night was, at €1,900. The numbers that were drawn were 2, 6 and 18. With low numbers, there is always a great propensity that someone will have the numbers, but not in this case, as was the case as well, last week. The winners of the lucky dips, last Tuesday evening were as follows: €50 The Lotto Gang CTR (seller–John Angland); €30 Eric Piggott (seller–The Haven Bar) €20 Nora Twohig (seller–John Angland).
The draw on 16th April will be for €2,000. Purchase your ticket from any committee member or from our website Killavullengaa. com. Thank you for your anticipated and ongoing support.

CELTIC CHALLENGE: LOCAL PARTICIPANT - The 2024 Electric Ireland Celtic Challenge competition for Cork North, finally got underway on Saturday last, the 13th April with a game against Waterford, that was played in Banteer, on the fantastic Astra Turf in that location. Cork North won out; on a score of 0-20 to 1-12 with Niall Feaheny from this parish introduced as a telling substitute with 20 minutes to go, and made a telling impact, scoring 3 points from play.
