BEAL Atha’n Ghaoireadh and Clyda Rovers played out a closely fought game at Mourneabbe­y on Saturday evening.

Both defences were well on top throughout. Donagh Seartain had the opening score a goal for the winners in the fourth minute. Clyda Rovers replied with a Kevin Graham point.

Eoin Walsh pointed a ‘45 and followed from a free as the sides were level 1-0 to 0-3 after 12 minutes. Both sides had some wides.

Eoin Walsh with two more points had Clyda in front. In the 29th minute Diarmuid MacThomais pointed a difficult free against the wind as Clyda led 0-5 to 1-1 at the break.

On the resumption Eoin Walsh landed a long range free.

Good play by Nollaig Ó Laoire and Seán Ó Luasa led to Donagh Seartain point 0-6 to 1-2. Diarmuid MacThomais added a point.

In the 42nd minute Cian Ó Duinnin, Concubhair Ó Loinsigh and Donagh Seartain worked well for the well placed Concubhair Ó Loinsigh who goaled 2-3 to 0-7.

Clyda substitute Chris Kenny goaled after a four man attack and the home side were ahead 1-7 to 2-3. Concubhair Ó Loinsigh levelled in the 49th minute.

The ‘Gaeltacht’ side hit the front by Diarmuid MacThomais.

Clyda tried very hard to get back on terms. The Ballingear­y defence held firm and they had two late points by Dara Ó Ceallaiche­an and Liam Ó Criodain.

In injury time Eoin Walsh pointed two frees but it was Beal Atha’n Ghaoireadh that held out for a single point win.
