Buttevant retain their 100% record

BUTTEVANT had their third win from their three games played in Buttevant on Sunday where they had a close victory over Mitchelsto­wn.

Mitchelsto­wn were the physically stronger side with Fionn Herlihy, Seán O’Sullivan, Shane Beston and Seán Walsh in great form. Michael O’Neill opened the scoring.

‘Town’ hit the front when Kevin Cotter placed Shane Beston for a goal. Seán Walsh followed with a point. Paddy Behan had a goal for the home side 1-1 each. By the 15th minute they were deadlocked 1-2 apiece.

Buttevant keeper Denis O’Sullivan saved well from Seán Walsh with the rebound going out for a ‘45 that Darragh Flynn converted. Further Mitchelsto­wn pressure yielded points by Dylan Reidy Price and Shane Beston 1-5 to 1-2 after 24 minutes.

David Hanlon pointed a free after a foul on Michael O’Neill. Mitchelsto­wn finished the half with points by Seán Walsh and Dylan Reidy Price as they led at the break 1- 8 to 1-3.

On the resumption Buttevant took control. They held Mitchelsto­wn to just two scores in this half, a goal by Dylan Sheehan in the 39th minute and a 53rd minute point by Shane Beston. Buttevant used the short passing to great effect.

Mark Lenahan pointed a free and David Hanlon had a goal after good play by Mark Lenahan. In the 40th minute Aaron Trimm and Dónal Ryan worked well for Trimm who placed the inrushing Conor Hanlon for the equalising point 1-8 to 2-5.

‘Town’ replied with a Dylan Sheehan goal following a mix up in the Buttevant defence. The home side rallied well. Conor Hanlon (two), and Seamus Madigan had points 2-8 each.

Shane Beston with a great point gave Mitchelsto­wn the lead in the closing moments. Four minutes of injury time were played. In this period Mark Lenahan with two points gave Buttevant a close win.
