County football opens for Lismire and St. John’s

-

A number of Duhallow clubs begin their quest for progress in the County Junior ‘B’ and ‘C’ Football Championship with Lismire and St. John’s hitting the road in search of ultimate spoils.

Of course, Lismire are elevated to ‘B’ ranks thanks to a memorable outright triumph in the County Junior ‘C’ grade last season thanks to a two point win over Ballinacurra.

Lismire are newcomers to ‘B’ level, their initial outing comes against Crosshaven in Donoughmore on Saturday evening. From last season’s team, Michael McSweeney and Liam Geaney have emigrated, the side is captained by Jeremy Lawlor and features Eamon Hayes, Sean McSweeney, Patrick Buckley, the O’Sullivan brothers and Sheahan twins in the starting line up.

The perfect preparation for Lismire when overcoming Newmarket in the Ducon Cup earlier in the week though a new grade offers stiffer competition.

St. John’s encounter last season’s finalists Ballinacurra in the opening round of the ‘C’ Championship. The Duhallow side will be encouraged by a recent outing against Kanturk as they look to Kevin Sheehan, Conor Lane, James Broxton, Conor Healy and Charlie Kelleher for guidance.

Given their progress to last season’s decider, Ballinacurra will provide stern opposition. Also in the grade are Freemount, availing of a bye in the opening weekend.
