Cork Nor th beaten in U17 Celtic Challenge

UNDER-17 HURLING CELTIC CHALLENGE QUARTER-FINAL

Tipperary Gold 7-16 Cork North 3-14

A physically stronger and very well equipped Tipperary Gold emerged easy victors over Cork North in the Under-17 Hurling Celtic Challenge quarter-final at Ballyhea on Saturday.

Ben Jordan Reidy opened the scoring in the second minute. Tipp replied by their outstandin­g Darragh Dunne. Leelan O’Donoghue soloed through and goaled with North Cork replying with a goal by Michael Delee after the ball came back off the post from Ben Noonan 1-1 each.

From there on Tipperary took control. They were impressive in the half backline and their attack in regular supply took some good scores. In the 11th minute Darragh Dunne goaled 2-3 to 1-1. Tommy McGrath worked well for Dunne for another goal 3-4 to 1-1. Sean Byrne pointed a free. At the water break Tipperary led 3-4 to 1-2.

The winners pushed on from here with Oisin Power, Killian Collins and Darragh Dunne making it 3- 7 to 1-3. Sean Byrne pointed a free and from play. Conor Grace landed a long range Tipperary point. Niall Feaheny had a Cork North point in injury time. At halt time Tipperary held a 3-10 to 1-6 advantage.

Cork North had the aid of the stiff breeze on the resumption. Darragh Dunne and Sean Byrne exchanged a point. Good play by Leelan O’Donoghue and Oisin Power led to a goal by Tommy McGrath. Sean Byrne and Darragh Dunne exchanged a point.

By the second water break Tipperary were 4- 13 to 1-10 clear. Michael Quinlan had the Premier side’s fifth goal. Cork North had a goal by Conor O’Brien with Euan Keating pointing.

Late goals by Jack Galvin and Conor Grace saw out an easy win for Tipperary.
