Angela gets away to ’Frisco with her new TV role
SHE was confirmed this week as the new co-presenter of travel show Getaways, and it appears Angela Scanlon is already reaping the benefits.
The stunning redhead, who has previously presented The Movie Show and documentaries Oi Ginger and The Naked Truth, is in San Francisco filming her first episode of the show, a joint co-production between RTÉ and BBC Northern Ireland.
Scanlon was selected for the role by RTÉ after presenter Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin said she wanted to focus on completing her PhD in mathematics.
The new role is the latest coup for Meath woman Anglea, who has been attracting praise for her work as a stylist in the UK. Last year, she was tipped by Vogue as one of ‘the ones to watch’.
Since arriving in San Francisco, Angela has been tweeting pictures of her work trip, including photos of the Golden Gate bridge.
It hasn’t all been fun as the star told followers she woke up on Friday with a ‘viciously sore throat. Filming all day so need rescue’.
RTÉ told the Irish Mail on Sunday that it was delighted that Angela had agreed to take over presenting duties from Aoibhinn.
‘[We] can confirm that Angela is taking over from Aoibhinn on Getaways, our travel series which is a co-production with BBC NI. We’re delighted that Angela’s going to co-present the show and would also like to thank Aoibhinn for her work on the past two series and look forward to working with her again,’ a spokesman said.
An RTÉ source said producers wanted Angela immediately.
‘Once Aoibhinn didn’t want to do it anymore they thought of Angela straight away. She’s bubbly and energetic and she works really well with the co-presenter Joe Lindsey,’ the insider explained.
The presenter is set to marry long-term partner, Roy Horgan, in Wicklow this summer.
