Kompany wants to take the easy route to glory this time

- By Joe Bernstein

hair is more tied up in a bun really,’ he said, smiling ‘I’ve never played against him before but he’s not the only big striker in the Premier League. I trust in my experience and know how to deal with him.’

If ‘Aguerooooo’ was the hero in 2012, there are no shortage of candidates this time around.

Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Alvaro Negredo have each scored more than 20 goals this season and David Silva is the best player in the League on current form.

Fernandinho, newly picked for the Brazil World Cup party, thinks City’s squad have given them the advantage. ‘We have a lot of options. We can change the games with substitutions and the manager has made a lot of good decisions on that.’

If City win today, their fans will hope it ushers in a new era of domination, similar to Liverpool and Manchester United. Financial fair play restrictions might be their biggest obstacle in the long term but Fernandinho said: ‘What happens tomorrow, nobody can know. But the club has built a team to win trophies. It’s our target.

‘We’ve won one title this year already and now we have the chance to win a second one. And the next years we’re going to try to do the same thing.’ MANCHESTER CITY captain Vincent Kompany has urged his team-mates to find ‘easier ways’ to win the title than they managed in 2012.

Kompany admits he thought his side had lost the league two years ago before they fought back with two desperately late goals to beat QPR 3-2.

In his post-match interview, the relieved Belgian exclaimed on camera: ‘Never again!’ and he is hoping today is nowhere near as dramatic. City require only a draw at home to West Ham to regain the championship from Manchester United.

‘There are easier ways to get there this year so hopefully we’ll make the right choices and do the right thing,’ said Kompany.

‘When you concede that goal (1-2 v QPR), it’s weird. One of the thoughts I had was, “OK, you lose this game, you put on a brave face. Do not go down on your knees, do not put your head in your hands. Stay straight and strong and you walk inside and come back next season and you try and win it again”.’

In a Sky Sports interview to be broadcast before their live coverage of City versus West Ham, Kompany reveals the part he played in Sergio Aguero’s title-winning goal.

‘I actually made the dummy run for him and I am very proud of that run. If you look at the images you can just see me getting out of the way to create space for him.’
