Magical Mulcahy inspires Cork comeback

CORK overcame a four- point deficit against Dublin yesterday, with the Rebelettes claiming their eighth Tesco Homegrown National Football League title in 10 years at Parnell Park.

The Dubs led 2-1 to 1-2 at half-time of the Division 1 ladies decider after Lindsay Peat bagged two goals, while they quickly added two points at the start of the second half to extend their lead.

But Cork then hit six points in a row as Dublin were held scoreless for 21 minutes, with Rebelettes captain Valerie Mulcahy (0-5, 4f) leading the way to a 1-9 to 2-4 victory.

Galway won the Division 2 final with a 3- 10 to 0-9 win over Westmeath with Annette Clarke and Barbara Hannon hitting goals.

Galway, who lost backto-back finals in the past two years, overcame a stubborn Westmeath resistance in the first half, with Clarke raising a green flag after a 19thminute penalty.

Leading 1-7 to 0-7 at the break, Clarke converted a second penalty in the 44th minute while Hannon buried a low shot to the Westmeath net three minutes later.

Armagh ran out comfortabl­e winners of the Division 3 final against Waterford, the Orchard women hit 1-3 in eight minutes before the break, and then reeled off four points early in the second half on the way to a 1-14 to 1-5 victory.
