- Royal Hospital Kilmainham,Dublin

The Royal Hospital plays host to a number of visiting performers throughout the summer and this two-day event in its grounds gets the summer season’s fare under way in fine fashion. The first day is headlined by indie giants the Flaming Lips, which will no doubt feature the now-familiar sight of front man Wayne Coyne crowd surfing by way of a transparent plastic bubble. Further down the bill, you’ll find the likes of Bell X1, Kid Karate and Vann Music. The second day is more dance-orientated with a DJ set from Two Many DJs as well as a performance by Public Enemy. Nowadays, they’re more likely to be found fighting the flab, rather than The Power, but they are still worth catching. There’s a Comedy Tent too with funny men Patrick McDonnell (of The Savage Eye), Foil, Arms & Hog and Kevin Gildea heading the bill. (Tickets from €99 for two days, €59.50 for one-day tickets; www.forbiddenfruit.ie)
