Candidates who can’t be bothered to call around – yes, those who just post their leaflets and beat a retreat – I won’t be voting for you. Get out and represent yourself by calling around to all households in your chosen area. To date, I’ve had six leaflets but only one candidate bothered to knock.

For a fraction of the cost of maintainin­g our councils, we can build and run a web-based, participat­ive local democracy, giving citizens a real, ongoing say in how our cities and towns are managed. Our current council structure dates back to 1898. Isn’t it time for a fresh look at local government?
