Amal’s Italian wedding – but not in George’s lakeside lair
HOLLYWOOD star George Clooney has set a date for his wedding to Amal Alamuddin, his beautiful human rights lawyer fiancée.
According to a close friend of Amal – who returned to work this week after celebrating her recent engagement to the Oscar winner – she is creating a ‘save the date’ card to send out to prepare friends and family to fly to Italy, and then Lebanon, in September.
‘September 12 is the date they are aiming for,’ said the source close to the Lebanese Amal, 35.
‘Everyone thinks they will marry in Lake Como, where George owns a beautiful home but Amal l feels that is too public.
‘And she doesn’t love the fact that he’s taken virtually all of his former girlfriends there either,’ the source added.
‘They are looking to host a small wedding in an Italian village where they can control the photographers.
‘At the moment they are looking at Ravello, on the Amalfi coast. But they haven’t decided yet. They will then have a big party for her relatives afterwards in Lebanon.’
As a human rights lawyer, Amal has been involved in a number of highprofile cases, representing the likes of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and Colonel Gaddafi’s former intelligence chief, Abdullah Al-Senussi.
She has also been appointed to a number of United Nations commissions, including as adviser to Kofi Annan, the Special Envoy on Syria.
But while her reputable status has enabled her reach the pinnacle of succ cess in her field, it has been a cause of concern for fiancé Clooney, who has had to employ additional security services in o order to ensure his future b bride and their guests remain completely safe on their big day. The source added: ‘George has already had his people and his security reach out to Lebanese companies that specialise in VIP close protection.
‘Locals saw them taking 3D pictures and scouting the road in front of the Chouf Mir Amine Palace in Beiteddine, which is a luxury hotel in Lebanon,’ the source said.
Clooney wooed brunette Amal via email after meeting her through mutual friends at a charity fundraising event last September – so the couple are trying to arrange their wedding so that it will fall on their one-year anniversary.
