To let: five-star suite, with pool, sauna and golf course

(rent allowance tenants are not a problem)

- By Niamh Towey

IT’S the palatial five-star hotel suite available to rent for just €900 a month – and the landlord has no problem accepting rent allowance.

Developer Eugene O’Connor advertised his luxury suite in the Powerscourt Hotel in Co. Wicklow on property website Daft.ie on Friday. Mr O’Connor is in dispute with the new owners of the hotel, formerly called the Ritz-Carlton.

For just €225 a week, the new tenant can enjoy the hotel’s Swarovski Crystal-lit heated pool, steam room, sauna and gym, as well as a world-class 18-hole golf course and stunning mountain views.

rent allowance, meaning all this five-star luxury could be subsidised by State welfare.

The hotel quotes €260 to stay in a similar room for one night only next Friday.

The property – close to the N11 and 30 minutes’ drive from Dublin city centre – is available to rent from Sunday, June 1, for a minimum of three months.

The one-bedroom, two bathroom suite is accessed via a lift and private entrance.

An opulent hall branches off into the lavishly decorated drawing room or the large, his and hers bathrooms.

There is a big, bright kitchen and an outdoor dining space with spectacular views of the Powerscourt Estate gardens and the Sugar Loaf mountain.

Mr O’Connor and other investors had been renting their suites back to owners Carrylane for about €36,000 a year. But the hotel’s new owner, Brehon Capital Partners, announced it would be cutting these rents in half. When Mr O’Connor protested by padlocking himself into the room, the hotel obtained a High Court injunction against him or his family living in the suite.

The Daft.ie advertisement has already attracted over 2,500 views.
