LEEDS UNITED
owner Massimo Cellino (right) has hired a team of forensic accountants to investigate the financial chaos at Elland Road after specialist advisors told him the finances ‘were the worst mess they’ve ever seen at a football club’. The club’s Thorp Arch training ground has been shut for the summer to save money, dozens of redundancies are expected to cut costs and some staff were not paid last week because the club bank account has been frozen. That action was taken after a windingup petition was served on Leeds by Sport Capital, a company owned by former managing director David Haigh, over an unpaid debt.
