Teachers cash in on poll day

MANY teachers were able to earn on the double this week as they took the opportunity to work in polling stations while also getting paid for their day off from school.

Many national schools across the country closed on Friday so they could be used as polling centres.

Pay rates start at €250 per day for a poll clerk, €265 for a special presiding officer, €335 for a presiding officer and €395 for a supervisory presiding officer and area inspector.
