BOD’S women salute as the rugby legend brings his playing career to a close with a trophy... and an injury

- By Alison O’Riordan and Eavan Gaffney news@mailonsunday.ie

AFTER 133 games in the green jersey and four Lions tours, Brian O’Driscoll played his final game as a pro player for Leinster yesterday, and ended up with yet another trophy in the cabinet.

But Leinster were forced to come to terms with the post-O’Driscoll era early as he was forced off the field with a knee injury after just eight minutes, 28 seconds – with wife Amy and parents Geraldine and Frank watching on from the stands.

But his team-mates made sure the legend had a fitting send-off by winning Rabodirect Pro 12.

The sporting icon hobbled back onto the pitch to celebrate Leinster’s 34-12 win against Glasgow –

‘I’ve dared him to do a

Dirty Dancing lift’

and received the adulation of the RDS crowd in the Ballsbridge sunshine.

The man of the moment shared the task of raising the Celtic League Trophy alongside Leo Cullen, who was also bowing out after a distinguished career.

Hoisted high onto the players’ shoulders, BOD and Leo shared the emotional moment as fireworks went off in the background and together they chanted ‘Championes Olé Olé Olé’.

On the eve of the match, Amy set her husband a dare on Twitter – to replicate the air-lift scene from Dirty Dancing to the music of Time Of My Life but with Bod and Leo taking the parts of Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

She tweeted: ‘I’ve dared Brian O’Driscoll to do an end of career dirty dancing lift if they win tomorrow but I fear he’s not taking it seriously.’

‘I think he and Leo need to do it. Brian would be Baby [Grey’s char- acter] obvs. I think if we all sing Time Of My Life in the stadium we can make it happen.’

Huberman wasn’t the only one on Twitter hoping to give O’Driscoll a special send-off, with the Defence Forces in Lebanon retweeting a picture of themselves standing in the formation of BOD’s lucky number 13.

Even famous rugby drinking hole Paddy Cullen’s in the heart of Ballsbridge was changed to Leo Cullen’s for the day, with one blue fan tweeting: ‘Guinness change Paddy Cullens to Leo Cullens for the day. Nice touch… Best of luck Leinster #BOD #LEO’.
