Software fault claim on water bills is rejected

-

A CLAIM by a People Before Profit councillor that Irish Water won’t be able to issue bills based on usage next January because of a software glitch has been dismissed as unfounded.

Andrew Keegan, a successful candidate in the recent elections in the Ballymun ward of Dublin City Council, claimed during his campaign that a delay in providing detail about the meters to the company developing Irish Water’s software means the bills can’t be calculated properly.

However, when asked for details Mr Keegan admitted he hadn’t any. ‘People in the industry told me this but I can’t say who they are as that would be putting their necks on the block,’ he said.

Two independent engineers who specialise in metering told the Irish Mail on Sunday that Mr Keegan’s claims sound ‘very dubious’. ‘It doesn’t really make any sense as I’ve been led to believe that the meters are confirmed active once they’re installed,’ said one.

Irish Water also rejected the claims.
