Celtic a dream job for anyone, says Strachan
SCOTLAND boss Gordon Strachan has urged Roy Keane to accept the challenge of managing Celtic as the Cork native prepares for further talks with the club’s majority shareholder Dermot Desmond.
Desmond has spoken to his fellow Irishman about the vacant Parkhead position and it is understood that the job is his if he wants it.
Keane currently operates as assistant to Martin O’Neill with the Republic of Ireland and was in the dug-out last night during their game against Italy at Craven Cottage.
Keane has been weighing up the pros and cons of taking the job over the past few days and is expected to make a decision before the Ireland squad fly to America on Wednesday for two further friendlies against World Cup participants Costa Rica and Portugal.
Desmond is keen to appoint a successor to Neil Lennon promptly as the club’s first Champions League qualifier is just six weeks away and Strachan, who was manager during Keane’s five-month playing spell at Celtic in 2006, believes it is an opportunity any candidate should jump at.
‘Roy is a friend of mine and I will see him soon, hopefully,’ said Strachan.
‘I have no idea whether or not he will be a good fit for Celtic but personally, I think that it is a great job for anybody to take,’ continued the Scot.
‘Whoever is lucky enough to be offered it, I think they should take it. It’s a job where there is never a dull moment and, without doubt, it will make you a stronger personality and a better manager.
‘You’ll be working with great people as well. I’m not giving any specific individual advice – I just believe that it’s a terrific job,’ added Strachan.
