Down the drain! How we clocked up litres

-

FRIDAY, MAY 9

The first day of our water monitoring. Two machine loads of clothes, at 65 litres each, used 130 litres and two dishwasher loads, at 18 litres each, brought the total to 166 litres. With two short power showers and a bath, the day’s total still came to 280 litres.

SATURDAY, MAY 10

Gardening and a kids’ party brought usage up to 430 litres.

SUNDAY, MAY 11

Our highest consumption at 490 litres. A bath supposedly uses 80 litres of water, but our big cast-iron bath seemed to hold more. Our Spring clean could have used over 100 litres.

MONDAY, MAY 12

Two power showers, two baths for the children, two washing machine loads plus two dishwasher loads. 360 litres.

TUESDAY, MAY 13

The children were out all day, so usage

was down – 280 litres

WEDNESDAY, MAY 14

Three washing machine loads and two dishwasher loads saw us using 380 litres of water, or 95 litres each, – well down on the EU estimates of 150 litres per person per day.

THURSDAY, MAY 15

My husband was in the garden, washing the walls and watering shrubs and flowers – 380 litres.

FRIDAY, MAY 16

We ate dinner out, saving the water used for dinner preparation and wash-up. Total usage, 210 litres.

SATURDAY, MAY 17

Two power showers for the adults and the children shared a bath. Only one washing machine load. Used 270 litres.

SUNDAY, MAY 18

The children and their friends had a water fight in the back garden. Two washing machine loads and two dishwasher loads and three power showers – 390 litres.

MONDAY, MAY 19 A friend visiting from Australia pushed up our water usage to 460 litres.

TUESDAY 20 MAY

Our visitor again was responsible for our increased water usage of 430 litres.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 21

One dishwasher load and two washing machine loads as well as two power showers – 240 litres.

THURSDAY, MAY 22

Husband and children away for the day – hence low water usage – 180 litres.
