He thinks it’s great, says mother of man who threw brick at garda car in protest

- By Debbie McCann

THIS is the man who was pictured hurling a brick at a garda car during last Saturday’s anti-water charge protests.

Dylan Collins, from Bawnlea, Tallaght, was photographed picking up the brick and throwing it at a garda car.

The picture was widely shared on the internet, and anti-water campaigners wrongly claimed that the photograph was a fake and accused the photographer of having Photoshopped the image,

The veracity of the photo was proven, first by the publication of the sequence of shots and then by a video depicting the action.

Yet activists bizarrely then went on to claim that the person throwing the brick was an undercover garda.

But now the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal that a young father-of-one from Jobstown, Co Dublin, is the man in the picture.

When approached by the MoS and asked about his actions, Collins initially queried how we had got his address.

When we put it to him that he was seen at the protest last Saturday, he replied: ‘Yeah’. Questioned further about the brick that was thrown, he said: ‘One second, alright,’ before going inside to speak to his mother.

Seconds later, Mr Collins’ mother came out of the house and told the MoS: ‘My son done something wrong. I am chastising him and I am really trying to sort it out really, really hard.

‘I am asking him to go to the garda station and I am really trying to sort it out. The last thing I need is having people up such as yourselves. He thinks it’s great.’

When asked if he thinks he’s great for throwing the brick, his mother replied: ‘He thinks it’s great because his name is all over the newspaper. It’s not right. But he thinks this is hilarious.

‘This is Jobstown. This is what goes on in Jobstown.’
