CHRISTMAS came early this year for one lucky girl – but instead of the red suit, Santa had red hair and a guitar.

Aimee Keogh, 11, from Dublin was a toy reviewer on the Late Late Toy Show on Friday when she was surprised by singer Ed Sheeran. The shocked schoolgirl exclaimed ‘I’m hysterical’ before going on to sing Thinking Out Loud with Ed.

Speaking to the Irish Mail on Sunday yesterday, Aimee was taking it all in her stride – but admitted that her Christmas was now complete.

‘I know it’s real, but it still hasn’t sunk in’

Aimee said she was encouraged to apply for the Toy Show after she impressed host Ryan Tubridy in a radio interview.

‘I was talking to Ryan about One Direction when they came to Dublin. He said I should apply for the Toy Show and I did. My mam took an audition tape and we sent it in. I then had to go for a round of auditions and I got it. I was delighted,’ she said.

And the young music fan still hasn’t recovered from the shock of meeting Ryan Tubridy and Ed Sheeran on the Toy show.

‘I only met Ryan last night and he was so nice. Such a nice guy. And then to meet Ed. I am so shocked, it’s not even funny. I’m amazed how it happened. I know it’s real but it still hasn’t sunk in.’

Aimee, who attends St Paul’s School in Greenhills, Dublin 12, said she is the toast of her friends who have been sending her messages all day.

‘When it happened my best friend texted my mam and was like “OMG”.’ Music lover Aimee has been playing the guitar since she was five and said that she loves when Sheeran plays the guitar.

She said: ‘My knees were shaking but I just did it. It was amazing.’

According to social media monitoring site Topsy, the Toy Show generated over 20,000 tweets when it was aired

Ed Sheeran made a huge effort to surprise his young fan, revealing on Twitter afterwards that he took three flights and visited four cities in one day to make the RTÉ show.

Ed’s journey to Dublin started from Paris on Thursday night, before flying to Newcastle for a Friday afternoon gig and then on to Dublin, before flying on to Birmingham, all in 24 hours.

And the affable singer even brought gifts for Aimee which included a VIP trip for her and her family to see Ed Sheeran play Wembley next March.

‘I am very excited. I have never been to London so it’s the perfect opportunity. I still can’t believe it,’ Aimee said.

Ed also brought her a signed CD, a jumper and a Ted Sheeran bear. Aimee said: ‘I’m wearing the jumper today. But I haven’t taken Ed Ted out of the box. I don’t want to get him ruined.’
