Drag artist Missunderstud wants to glam up Voice Of Ireland

-

MEANWHILE, a singer-songwriter with the stage name Missunderstud is hoping to drag The Voice Of Ireland up in the glam stakes.

Tonight’s blind auditions feature Ken Murphy who hopes to impress the judges with a falsetto rendition of the Prince hit Kiss.

‘I wasn’t going to do something safe and I wanted to get their attention,’ said the 49-year-old Dubliner who performs in an Eighties tribute act in full drag alongside girlfriend Rachel.

He decided to leave his dress at home for tonight’s audition but acts out a striptease for the audience.

If he progresses in the show he says he will glam up the battle stages with his fancy dress act.

‘I love glam rock and that is what I would love to do if I make it through to the next stage. A song like 20th Century Boy by T Rex, or Bowie, or who knows? I can be versatile.

Business has slowed for Ken since the recession and he said he tried out for the show in a bid to ‘get a bit of publicity and a few bookings’. He dresses in drag for his Twisted Sister act with Rachel and says: ‘It goes down a storm. I think the women really like it.

‘I was dressing up as a woman long before I met Rachel so she has to put up with it. But she loves it.’

Rachel also auditioned for The Voice but did not make it through.
