Is Harry heading in his Own Direction?

- From Caroline Graham

ONE DIRECTION star Harry Styles has been recording alone in a Hollywood studio – sparking renewed speculation that he will release a solo album.

The singer has been working with renowned producer Johan Carlsson. Speaking exclusively to The Irish Mail on Sunday, Swedish-born Carlsson, 30, said he and Styles were ‘just writing songs and seeing if we can come up with something cool’.

He confirmed they worked together ‘on and off several days a week for four weeks’ in a private LA recording studio just before Styles embarked on One Direction’s On The Road Again world tour, which will reach Japan this week.

It is the first time anyone close to Styles has confirmed he has been working on solo material. Carlsson, who co-wrote Ariana Grande’s hit Just A Little Bit Of Your Heart with Styles, said: ‘He’s such a good songwriter – it’s an honour to write music with him.

‘He’s fantastic with the words and he can really put down lyrics that are very conversational and people can relate to. We’re just having a good time.’

Carlsson is one of the leading producers on the current pop scene and has collaborated on hits for Maroon 5 and Avril Lavigne.

Last year, Simon Cowell said he believed Styles would go solo after fulfilling his commitments to One Direction, which include the world tour and a further two albums.

A One Direction spokesman said that Styles had been in the studio to work on the band’s new album. He added that fellow members Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne had also been recording on their own for the forthcoming release.
