Mario’s got a Notorious new target in his sights

COMEDIAN Mario Rosenstock is taking on a more dangerous opponent than his usual victims, but says he couldn’t resist it because he has found the perfect mimic fodder. The Gift Grub impersonator has lined up MMA fighter Conor McGregor for a tongue lashing.

‘He’s fantastic. He’s fun, colourful, and controversial and he has a great voice. People talk about him and he has great potential in sketches. I like characters like that,’ he said.

Rosenstock, pictured, has taken to mimicking McGregor and debuted his new character on Today FM this month. But it seems the mimic is not keen to take his engagement with McGregor, who also goes by the moniker Notorious, into real life.

When asked what he would do if he were to bump into the fighter, Rosenstock was realistic about his chances. ‘He’s proba- bly gonna kick the s**t out of me anyways,’ he laughed. ‘It’s not like I can even train for a scrap with him. But, look, he’s a rampant self-publicist.’

Rosenstock is famous for his impersonations of Enda Kenny and he said that he had met the Taoiseach on numerous occasions. ‘My first meeting with Enda was appalling. It was in Castlebar; he asked for a photograph. I was thinking, “This guy can’t be Taoiseach, asking for photos with comedians.” That was three months before he was elected.’ However, he was highly complimentary of Anton Savage, who has taken over the Today FM slot vacated by Ray D’Arcy. ‘He’s beginning to find his feet,’ he said. ‘Anton is one of the slickest broadcasters ever.’
