RTÉ presenter Claire Byrne has been garnering praise for tackling the tough issues of the day as host of new current affairs show Claire Byrne Live. But her new stylish look has also not gone unnoticed. Insiders have revealed that Claire’s elegant makeover was inspired by TV heroines – particularly Robin Wright’s House Of Cards character Claire Underwood.

Claire, 39, has enlisted the help of stylist Brendan Marc Scully and Catherine Manning from RTÉ’s wardrobe department but has also been putting her own stamp on her choices.

‘She has been taking inspiration from Robin Wright of House Of Cards and from Emily Mortimer in The Newsroom,’ said a source. The emphasis is power suits and heels.

‘The set doesn’t allow for fluffy patterns. Claire wanted to keep it simple and keep the focus on the show.

‘She has been pregnant for a large part of the past few shows so she was ready for a change.’

Mother-of-two Claire is embracing the mix’n’match trend and has been making her wardrobe as interchangeable as possible.

She popped into Seagreen boutique in Monkstown and bought a pair of Tibi trousers that can be worn with various tops. The Tibi Anson pants sell for €295.

‘Claire wanted the Tibi trousers as she felt that they would go with anything and she could mix them up,’ said a source.

For her Late Late Show appearance before her own show’s launch, Claire stunned in a Louise Kennedy top with asymmetric detail, teamed with Leonie Onyx jersey trousers.

For her opening edition of Claire Byrne Live she also stepped out in a navy Louise Kennedy tuxedo suit, teamed with a navy top.

The following week she decided on a stylish black Bastyan suit but she added a fuchsia silk top underneath for a splash of colour. And for last week’s show, she also chose a simple Bastyan suit from Brown Thomas.
