Hillary Clinton to announce presidential run on Twitter today

- By Alison O’Riordan

AFTER what has been a very long phony period of denial, Hillary Clinton is expected to announce her second run for the US Presidency nominations in a tweet today.

The announcement will end long running speculation that she would seek the Democratic nomination.

The 67-year-old has been a highprofile figure in US politics for more than two decades since her husband’s presidency began in 1992.

In the 2008 election, Hillary was a leading candidate for the Democratic nomination but lost it to Barack Obama despite being strong favourite just a few months before.

She will be the first Democrat to declare for next year’s election, and is widely considered as the frontrunner within the party. If elected, she would be the first woman US president.

She served as Secretary of State under Barack Obama from 2009 to 2013 and was a senator for New York from 2001 to 2009.

Sources have confirmed that she will declare this afternoon while travelling from New York to Iowa, the first caucus state.

But she will not do so with a speech but on her Twitter account, where she has kept an active presence on political issues.

Although it is expected a speech some time later.

She is expected to face opposition from former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley and former senator Jim Webb.
