Bray revival continues as Limerick swamped

- By Paul Dowling

BRAY WANDERERS’ recent resurgence saw them put togther back-toback wins and Limerick slump to the bottom of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division last night.

Wanderers secured their first success at the Carlisle Grounds since August 2014 courtesy of three goals in 16 second-half minutes as caretaker first team coach Maciej Tarnogrodzki maintained his 100 per cent record from the dug-out.

As for Martin Russell’s Munster side, they are now without a win in their opening six League matches and prop up the standings on goal difference from Galway United.

Having lost their three previous home ties this season, Wanderers broke off a visiting corner to take the lead in the 55th minute.

Dave Cassidy won a tackle with Seán Harding before exchanging passes with the breaking Adam Hanlon.

The Bray skipper then fed the winger who got a lucky ricochet off a Limerick tackle and lashed in from six yards.

Then, in the 61st minute, sub Emeka Onwubiko latched onto a loose ball and evaded the attentions of Aidan Price. Conor O’Donnell dived at the striker’s feet but failed to gather which allowed Onwubiko slot from a tight angle.

It got even better for the Wicklow outfit with 19 minutes to go.

Cassidy played a one-two with Onwubiko and beat two opponents only to be denied by O’Donnell. But Cassidy fired in the rebound to the roof of the net.

They put the gloss on the success in the last minute of normal time.

Onwubiko linked with fellow reserve Chris Lyons before pulling the ball back for Graham Kelly to place a low drive in from 16 yards.

Limerick had the better of the first half exchanges with Stephen McGuiness pulling off saves to deny Seán Harding and Paul O’Conor.
