Fresh heartache for Macari as fiancé arrested again
Norwegian ‘businessman’ was convicted over property fraud
SOCIALITE Virginia Macari is facing fresh heartache this year after her fiancé was arrested AGAIN in Spain, the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal.
Thor Kaste Dahl, who last year was sentenced to jail in his native Norway for his role in a property fraud, was arrested in Marbella on December 4 2015 on foot of an international arrest warrant.
Norwegian authorities issued the warrant and Kaste Dahl appeared before court in Spain in a bid to fight the extradition charge. The ‘businessman’ who has a string of convictions and has served long jail sentences, was due to report to Norway to serve his sentence. But he failed to show up – prompting the Norwegian police to issue the international arrest warrant.
Dahl got engaged to Virginia Macari three years ago on television show Dublin Wives, at a time when he was still wanted in Norway over his crimes.
His reluctance to return to Norway could be due to the fact that he recently testified against two of his co-accused.
According to Norwegian newspaper, Dagens Naeringsliv, at a recent trial in Oslo District Court, Dahl testified via Skype against Finn Sand and Egil Lagem over their role in the property fraud. Both men were sentenced to jail but their lawyers have indicated they will appeal.
The Irish Mail on Sunday first revealed last year that he had been arrested in Spain over a multimillion euro holiday cabin fraud in Norway. The MoS also revealed that Kaste Dahl had a string of criminal convictions to his name and had served time for crimes ranging from theft to drugs.
Socialite Virginia Macari met her now fiancé
‘International arrest warrant was issued’
when they were both living in Marbella
After a whirlwind romance, they returned to live in Ireland where they were regulars on the social scene and on magazine covers. In 2012, Virginia gave birth to the couple’s first son Thor and the pair got engaged in New York shortly afterwards, with Dahl presenting her with a huge rock he had bought from Dublin jeweller Paul Sheeran. But while rumours swirled on the Dublin social scene over Dahl’s dubious past, the couple steadfastly rejected any claims he was involved in crime.
But when it was revealed that he had been arrested, the couple moved to underplay his role in the fraud.
Virginia spoke to the media and said that her fiancé was simply charged with giving the bank ‘wrong information’. However, it appears that Norwegian authorities are set to extradite him to serve his time as he is due back before the courts in Spain soon where his future will be determined..
