Model calls on people to ‘adopt, don’t shop’ when getting a dog
MODEL Holly Carpenter may have a new man in her life in the form of musician Danny O’Reilly. But the talented singer may have some rivalry for Holly’s affections in the form of her two pet rescue dogs, Gus and Toby.
At a time when so many dogs are cruelly dumped after the Christmas season, Holly has opened up about her two rescue animals.
Dogs Trust launched a campaign before Christmas asking people to ‘Make the Puppy Promise’ and not buy a dog for Christmas. But two weeks after the big day, the Irish pounds are shamefully full of unwanted dogs.
Speaking to the Irish Mail on Sunday, Holly has said that her two dogs, Gus and Toby, bring so much happiness and fun to her house.
Holly, 23, adopted her furry friends from Dogs Trust.
‘They are both from Dogs Trust and I love them to bits,’ she said. Her pooches are small Jack Russell cross breeds and the model and her family have opened their home and hearts to the dogs.
‘They are so loving and so loyal,’ she said. ‘And it is so nice to come home to them, especially when everyone else is out.’
Last week Toby turned two and he celebrated his new life in his new home with his canine friend Gus, who is five years old.
Holly adopted Toby shortly after her split from rugby star Cian Healy. After the couple split in 2014, Cian got custody of their pug Ted and Holly was left heartbroken from losing Ted.
Now Holly has called on people to ‘adopt, don’t shop’.
Speaking to the MoS this week, Suzie Carley of Dogs Trust said: ‘We are full with adult dogs. We are trying to do all we can but so many dogs are being abandoned.
On Christmas Day a beautiful 12week-old puppy that Dogs Trust called Moses was among those found abandoned.
