Luke loses his heart to a Galway girl in Barbados

- By Niamh Walsh

IRELAND rugby star Luke Fitzgerald missed the Six Nations with an ‘unfortunate’ knee injury. But luckily for him, he is recuperating in Barbados with his new girlfriend, who the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal is Galway girl Sadbh McMahon.

The injury-prone Leinster star was ruled out of Six Nations selection after suffering a minor knee problem. But he managed to hobble to the Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados with girlfriend Sadbh.

Sadbh has been dating Luke for some time and they were previously pictured together in Dubai, where they jetted after Ireland’s defeat at last year’s World Cup. They were joined by his Ireland teammates and partners Rob Kearney and Jess Redden and Cian Healey and Laura Smith.

But this time Luke and Sadbh have flown away on their own to the five-star Sandy Lane – favourite holiday spot of Simon Cowell who stays there every Christmas and new year.

Owned by billionaire Dermot Desmond, the financier’s son Brett and daughter-in-law Andrea Corr are also frequent guests at the resort.

UCD graduate Sadbh was obviously delighted with her sunshine break and took to Instagram to share some snaps.

Wearing a mis-matched bikini and a baseball cap she took a bathroom selfie of her toned body, while Luke posted a picture of the view from their beachside hotel.

Luke’s new blonde girlfriend marks a departure from his penchant for dark-haired models. He previously dated TV star Nadia Forde for a number of years before they split in 2013.

He also had a shortlived romance with model Cheryl O’Rourke.

So while Luke’s love life seems to have brightened up his rugby career looks still to be in the dark.

Hopefully, the sunshine will help the injured player back to full form.
